RedHack hacked the website of the restoration company which destroyed the walls of the historic galata tower in Istanbul.

The iconic 67-meter (220-foot) structure overlooking the Golden Horn was the ancient city’s tallest structure when completed by the Genoese in 1348.

The website of Taksim Yapı, the company which demolished the walls of Galata Tower with a construction machine in the name restoration, was hacked by RedHack.

Announcing the action through their Twitter account, RedHack said, “We warn those who try to pierce the Galata tower. We are behind every door you open. The sledgehammer is in our hands. Sur, Hasankeyf, Hagia Sophia, Galata Tower and thousands more are our values. We will protect our cultural heritage.”

The ancient city of Hasankeyf was destroyed earlier this year.
